Križanićeva Hall of Fame
Unfortunately, what you might have heard is
true. The legendary Križanićeva turned out to
be a cultural monument. Now writing on the Zagreb's
best HoFa is considered completely unacceptable.
We agree that the building itself is a cultural
monument, there's no doubt about that. But guys,
there's fucking school there! It's about a bunch
of kids constantly being burdened with variety
of bans. Is it really neophodno to remove graffiti
from the playground?
You can imagine poor kids spending their pocket
money on sprays - ughh... sorry, aerosol paints,
and trying hard to leave some high-quality trace
on these walls.
Križanićeva was visited by the world's best
writers as well. It became more popular than
the resident grammar school ever will be. Speaking
in marketing terms, it was our great export
product.
And now someone says graffiti HAVE TO be overpainted?
Someone who thinks graffiti art has a bad influence
and inhibits the young people's development.
Nevertheless, no one seemed to be bothered while
they were making clips or TV commercials on
this very playground. You know, directors preferred
productions on this very playground because
of well-tended garden, not some graffiti...
Btw, someone must have walk off with some considerable
amount, whether it be the school itself or an
individual misuse of Croatian cultural meyhem.
Somehow we cannot help thinking about one of
the most wretched paintjobs we've ever seen
- not to mention the façade coming off the walls
or holes made by shrapnels - the war memories
from mid-90-s. The Ministry of Education could
of course initiate some maintenance program,
but it surely costs a lot... And elections are
close... But there's the easiest way to do it
- paint the walls, use some whitewash for superiors
and brainwash the kids.
Yet we're strongly confinced that the day will
come when young and smart people will be on
the job of the present headmistress. We're waiting
for people more sensitive to kids as the present
school management is more suitable for old people's
home.
